Key Data and Facts

Full disability pension: ability to work under 3 h/day. Partial: 3-6 h/day (half pension). Requirements: at least 5 years of insurance, of which 3 years of mandatory contributions in the last 5 years.

Step-by-Step Guide

How to calculate the reduced earning capacity pension step by step: 1. Determine the type of reduced earning capacity: Full reduced earning capacity: You can work less than 3 hours a day (in any occupation). Partial reduced earning capacity: You can work 3-6 hours a day. 2. Check the requirements: At least 5 years of insurance period (qualifying period). At least 3 years of compulsory contributions in the last 5 years before the onset of the reduced earning capacity. 3. Calculate the pension amount: Existing earnings points are added together. Supplementary period: The time from the onset of the reduced earning capacity until the standard retirement age is added on a notional basis (as if you had continued to work at the average level). Pension formula: earnings points x pension type factor x current pension value. Pension type factor: 1.0 (full reduced earning capacity) or 0.5 (partial reduced earning capacity). 4. Note the additional earnings limit: Full reduced earning capacity pension: additional earnings unlimited from 2023 (after the limits were abolished). Partial reduced earning capacity: likewise determined individually. Example: Female employee, 45 years old, 20 contribution years, on average 0.9 EP/year. Existing EP: 20 x 0.9 = 18 EP. Supplementary period up to age 67: 22 years x 0.9 EP = 19.8 EP. Total EP: 37.8 EP. Full reduced earning capacity pension: 37.8 x 1.0 x 42.52 = 1,607.26 EUR gross. Partial reduced earning capacity pension: 37.8 x 0.5 x 42.52 = 803.63 EUR gross. After deductions (health/long-term care insurance about 11 %): full reduced earning capacity pension about 1,430 EUR net.

Calculation Example

45 years old, 20 contribution years, 0.9 EP/year. Existing EP: 18. Supplementary period (22 years): 19.8 EP. Total: 37.8 EP. Full reduced earning capacity pension: 37.8 x 42.52 = 1,607 EUR gross (approx. 1,430 EUR net).
