FAQ
Frequently Asked Questions
How do I calculate a discount percentage?
Discount percentage equals (original price minus discounted price) divided by the original price, times 100. For example, a product reduced from 100 to 75 euros has a 25% discount.
What is the difference between a discount and a rebate?
A discount is an immediate price reduction at the time of purchase. A rebate is a retrospective refund, often based on reaching a purchase volume over a period (e.g., annual volume discounts).
Are my entered amounts stored anywhere?

Key Data and Facts
Discount = original price * discount percent / 100. Double discounts are applied sequentially (e.g. 20% + 10% = 28% total, not 30%).
Step-by-Step Guide
How to calculate discounts step by step: 1. Enter the original price: The regular price without a discount. 2. Specify the discount percentage: e.g. 15 %, 20 % or 30 %. 3. Calculate the discount amount: Discount = original price x discount percentage / 100. 4. Determine the final price: Final price = original price - discount amount. 5. For double discounts: Calculate the discounts one after the other, do not add them up. The first discount on the original price, the second discount on the already reduced price. 6. Reverse calculation: If you know the final price, calculate the discount percentage: (original price - final price) / original price x 100. Example 1: Television, original price EUR 899, 25 % discount. Discount amount: 899 x 0.25 = EUR 224.75. Final price: 899 - 224.75 = EUR 674.25. Example 2: Double discount -- first 20 %, then an additional 10 %. After 20 %: 899 x 0.80 = EUR 719.20. After a further 10 %: 719.20 x 0.90 = EUR 647.28. Total discount: (899 - 647.28) / 899 = 28 %, not 30 %.
Calculation Example
TV 899 EUR, 25 % discount. Savings: 224.75 EUR. Final price: 674.25 EUR. Double discount 20 % + 10 %: final price 647.28 EUR (effectively 28 %, not 30 %).
