Simplified calculation per §32a EStG 2026 (basic tariff, single person). Extraordinary burdens only reduce taxable income to the extent that they exceed the reasonable burden under Section 33(3) EStG (for single people without children 5% / 6% / 7% of total income, applied in bands). Actual tax savings depend on many factors. Without guarantee.

FAQ
Frequently Asked Questions
What are the most effective ways to reduce taxes?
Key strategies include maximizing income-related expenses (Werbungskosten), using the commuter allowance, contributing to retirement plans, claiming home office deductions, and timing income and expenses strategically.
Can I deduct home office costs?
Since 2023, you can deduct a flat rate of 6 euros per day worked from home, up to 1,260 euros per year (210 days). Alternatively, actual costs can be deducted if you have a dedicated home office room.
Is it worth entering income-related expenses below €1,230?
No. For employees, the tax office automatically applies the employee lump sum of €1,230, and the calculator likewise always uses the higher of the lump sum and your actual income-related expenses (Werbungskosten). Only the part above it has a tax effect: with €65,000 gross income and €2,000 of expenses, an additional €770 reduces taxable income, saving around €306 in income tax. Your commute alone can exceed the lump sum – at €0.38 per kilometre of distance and 220 working days, from around 15 km one way.

What is the Tax Optimization Calculator Germany?
The tax optimisation calculator shows legal ways to reduce your tax burden. It analyses deduction items such as income-related expenses, special expenses and pension provisions.
How does the Tax Optimization Calculator Germany work?
Enter your gross income and your deductions. The calculator compares each item with its lump sum and shows the tax saving per deduction (2026 basic tariff). It covers income-related expenses, special expenses, pension provisions and extraordinary burdens – the latter only to the extent that they exceed the reasonable burden (zumutbare Belastung) under Section 33(3) EStG.
Key Data and Facts
Income-related expenses lump sum: 1,230 euros. Special expenses lump sum: 36 euros. Household services: max. 20,000 euros (20% = max. 4,000 euros tax saving). Tradesperson services: max. 6,000 euros (20% = max. 1,200 euros).
Calculation Example
Gross income EUR 65,000, EUR 5,000 of medical costs as an extraordinary burden, otherwise only lump sums. Total income: 65,000 - 1,230 = EUR 63,770. Reasonable burden (single, no children): 15,340 x 5% + 35,790 x 6% + 12,640 x 7% = 767.00 + 2,147.40 + 884.80 = EUR 3,799.20. Deductible: 5,000 - 3,799.20 = EUR 1,200.80. Tax saving: EUR 476 (not EUR 1,950 as with a full deduction of the EUR 5,000). Costs up to EUR 3,799.20 have no effect at all in this case.
