Key Data and Facts
Legal right to part-time from 15 employees (Section 8 TzBfG). Bridge part-time since 2019: temporary part-time with right to return to full-time (from 45 employees).
Step-by-Step Guide
How to calculate your part-time salary step by step: 1. Enter the full-time gross salary: the current or agreed salary for a full position. 2. Specify the full-time and part-time hours: full-time e.g. 40 h/week, desired part-time e.g. 30 h/week. 3. Calculate the part-time factor: part-time hours / full-time hours = 30 / 40 = 0.75 (75%). 4. Determine the part-time gross: full-time gross x part-time factor. At 4,000 EUR full-time: 4,000 x 0.75 = 3,000 EUR. 5. Calculate the net: due to tax progression, the net amount is disproportionately high. 25% less gross often means only 18-20% less net. 6. Note the impact on your pension: pension points decrease in proportion to the reduction in working time. With 75% part-time over 10 years, about 2.5 pension points are missing (about 95 EUR/month pension).
Calculation Example
Full-time 4,000 EUR gross, 40 h/week. Part-time 30 h (75%): gross 3,000 EUR. Net loss: only approx. 600 EUR instead of 780 EUR thanks to the lower tax rate.
