Resistance (Ohm)
23.00 Ω
R = U / I
Calculation
P = U x I = 230 V x 10 A = 2,300 W
Formulas
Power
P = U x I (Watt)
Voltage
U = P / I (Volt)
Current
I = P / U (Ampere)
Resistance
R = U / I (Ohm)
Typical household values
Household socket: 230V, max. 16A = 3,680W
Three-phase (stove): 400V, 16A = 6,400W
USB charger: 5V, 2A = 10W

FAQ
Frequently Asked Questions
How do volts, watts, and amperes relate to each other?
Watts equals volts times amperes (P = U x I). Volts measure electrical pressure, amperes measure current flow, and watts measure power consumption. For household outlets in Germany: 230V x 16A = 3,680W maximum.
What fuse size do I need?
Divide the device wattage by the voltage (230V in Germany) to find the required amperes. A standard household circuit uses 16A fuses, suitable for up to 3,680 watts.
Which electricity prices are baked into the calculation?
An average household electricity price of about 36 ct/kWh is used (Germany 2026). Actual prices vary by provider and tariff — the calculator allows you to enter your own value.

Quick Answer
The volt-watt-ampere calculator converts between electrical voltage, power and current and computes the missing quantity.
What is the Volt-Watt-Ampere Calculator?
The volt-watt-ampere calculator converts between electrical voltage, power and current and computes the missing quantity.
How does the Volt-Watt-Ampere Calculator work?
Enter two of the three quantities: voltage (volts), current (amps) or power (watts). The calculator determines the third using the formula P = U * I.
Key Data and Facts
Formula: watts = volts * amps. Household mains Germany: 230 volts. 16 A fuse: max. 3,680 watts. Three-phase power: 400 volts, typically 32 A.
Step-by-Step Guide
How to convert between volts, watts and amperes step by step: 1. Enter two known quantities: voltage (volts), current (amperes) or power (watts). 2. Apply the formula: watts = volts x amperes. Amperes = watts / volts. Volts = watts / amperes. 3. Typical applications: checking a fuse: a 16 A fuse at 230 V carries a maximum of 16 x 230 = 3,680 watts. Determining the cable cross-section: first calculate the current, then the required cross-section. Connecting a device to a UPS: know the power of the device in watts in order to choose the suitable UPS in VA. 4. With three-phase current (400 V, 3 phases): P = root(3) x U x I x cos(phi). For an ohmic load (cos phi = 1): 400 V x 16 A x 1.732 = approx. 11,085 watts. 5. Caution with VA and watts: with alternating current, VA (apparent power) is not equal to watts (real power). The power factor cos(phi) determines the ratio.
Calculation Example
Kettle 2,200 W at 230 V: current = 2,200 / 230 = 9.57 amperes. Fits on a 16 A fuse (max. 3,680 W).
