How much does car depreciation cost?
New cars lose about 25% in the first year and around 5-10% each subsequent year. After three years, a car has typically lost 40-50% of its original value.
What amount should I enter for vehicle tax – including for an electric car?
The annual amount from your vehicle tax assessment (Kfz-Steuerbescheid); the default is €200 a year. For combustion cars first registered from 2021, the tax is made up of a displacement component (petrol €2, diesel €9.50 per started 100 cm³) and a CO2 component for every gram above 95 g/km. Pure electric cars first registered by the end of 2030 are tax-exempt for up to ten years, at most until 31 December 2035 – then enter €0, and you can put kWh/100 km and the electricity price per kWh into the Consumption and Fuel Price fields; the calculation stays the same.

A new car of 35,000 EUR: after 3 years approx. 20,000 EUR loss in value = 556 EUR/month. 2. Insurance: Third-party liability (mandatory): approx. 400-800 EUR/year. Partial comprehensive: approx. 150-400 EUR/year. Full comprehensive: approx. 500-1,500 EUR/year. 3. Vehicle tax: Depending on engine displacement and CO2 emissions, approx. 100-400 EUR/year. 4. Fuel: Annual mileage x consumption / 100 x price per litre. At 15,000 km, 7 l/100 km, 1.70 EUR/l: 1,785 EUR/year. 5. Maintenance and repairs: Inspection, oil change, wear parts.
