Frequently Asked Questions

What is the difference between gross and net salary?

Gross salary is your pay before deductions. After income tax, solidarity surcharge, church tax (if applicable), and social insurance contributions are subtracted, the remaining amount is your net salary -- the sum actually deposited into your account.

Which tax class applies to me?

Germany has six tax classes. Singles without children receive class I, single parents class II. Married couples can choose between III/V and IV/IV combinations. Since 2025, III/V is gradually being replaced by the factor method (IV/IV with factor). Class VI applies to secondary employment.

What is the Gross-to-Net Calculator?

The gross-to-net calculator determines your monthly net salary from the gross salary. It takes income tax, solidarity surcharge, church tax and social security contributions into account.

How does the Gross-to-Net Calculator work?

Enter your gross salary and select your tax class. The calculator computes income tax according to the 2025 tariff, solidarity surcharge, church tax and employee contributions to health, long-term care, pension and unemployment insurance. Net pay equals gross minus all deductions.
